Eating Disorders
Are you sick of trying to avoid certain foods, only to lose control and overeat? Do you overanalyze what your body looks like, spending time in front of the mirror every day struggling with what you see? Perhaps you turn to food to feel better, to help you when you feel bored or sad. Binge eating is when you have times when you feel a loss of control over what you eat, like you can't stop once you get started and you end up eating more than you want. Bulimia is when you feel that loss of control over your eating and you overeat, and then you try something to "make up" for what you ate, like excessive exercise, self-induced vomiting, or laxative use. Emotional eating, can be a part of either of these difficulties or can be an issue on it's own.

Cognitive behavioral treatment is what many organizations, such as the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association, recommend as a first-line treatment for binge eating and bulimia and can address emotional eating.

I provide supportive, evidence-based and personalized help for your eating difficulties.
CBT for Eating Disorders
Cognitive behavioral therapy for binge eating and bulimia gives you the tools to address the thoughts and feelings that impact your eating. We start with increasing your awareness of your eating patterns, addressing the underlying factors that cause you to lose control over your eating. We personalize concrete skills to help you manage how you feel about your body shape or weight. We also work to find healthy, sustainable ways to manage your emotions. The eventual goal is that no food has to be off limits and you feel empowered about your eating choices.

CBT for eating difficulties ranges from 5-20 sessions. I have worked with hundreds of adults of all ages, and I have seen how much these skills can help how you feel about your eating and weight. My goal is to help make what you eat, what you look like, just a part of your everyday life--not your whole life.

Related Issues to Eating
A common wish for those with binge eating or bulimia is to lose weight. In our first appointment together I will assess if weight loss is recommended based on your health, and we will discuss how it fits into your overall goals. There are other difficulties that often go hand in hand with eating problems, like depression and anxiety. I can help you find sustainable ways to address those issues that come along with your eating in our comprehensive treatment together.
